picks up the

hilt of the
sword of the
prince and places
it near the
thimble of the

playwright who becomes

his play because
of extreme cold. He has no
money to buy
firewood and warm
himself up. There

in his grate . He is hungry
and weak.

match girl whose
matches have fallen
into the gutter .
she had neither
shoes nor stokings. Her
father will beat
her. So to
save her he
sends the swallow
with a sapphire
for the girl.

because 'The Happy
Prince' has become
blind as the
sapphires has been
plucked out from
his eyes . In such a
miserable condition the
swallow could not
leave the prince
alone. The bird
felt pity for
the noble prince.
So he decided
to remain with
the prince.

the story ? Why
are they precious ?
Ans:
The precious
things mentioned in
the story are
the heart of
The Happy Prince
and the little
swallow . They are
precious because they
sacrificed themselves for
others well - being . They are self - less. They never thought of
their comfort but
tried to comfort
others.
