    1.   What  does  the  author   notice  one  Sunday   afternoon? What  is  his  mother’s  reaction?  What  does  she  do ?

Ans :   

The  author   saw  smoke  coming  out  of  the  ceiling   one  Sunday  afternoon. His  mother  ran  out  carrying  a  small  metal  box . Again   she  entered   the  house   to  bring  her  husband’s  picture   out  of  the  house.

    2.   Why  does  he  break  down  in  tears   after  the  fire?

Ans:  

The  author   broke   down  in  tears   after   the  fire  because   he  could   not  find  his  favorite  cat.

     3.   Why  is  the  author   deeply  embarrassed  the  next  day  in  school?  Which  words  his  fear  and  insecurity?

Ans : 

The  author  was  deeply  embarrassed   the  next  day  in  school  because  his  dress   was   dirty;  he  had  no  books  no  bag, no  home  work  with  him .  He  felt  he  was  going  to  be  outcast.  The  word  ‘weird’,  ‘geek’  and  ‘out  cast ’ show  his  fears  and  insecurity.

    4.   The  cat  and  the   author  are  very  fond  of  each  other.  How  has  this  been  shown  in  the   story ?  Where  was  the  cat  after  the  fire ?  Who  brings   it  back  and  how?

Ans:  

The  cat  the  author  were  very  much  fond  of  each  other.  The  author  began  to  weep  loudly  when  he  failed  to  find  his  cat  after  the  fire.   The  cat  ran  far  away  being  terrified  at  the  sight   of  the  fire .  A  woman  found   it  .  Though  it  had  a  telephone   number   on  its  collar, the   telephone  was  burnt  in  the  fire.  She  took  pains  to  search  the  cat’s  owner.

    5.   What  actions  of  the  schoolmates   change  the  author’s  understanding   of  life  and  people,  and  comfort   him   emotionally? How  does  his  loneliness  vanish   and  how  does  he  start   participating  in  life ?

Ans:

 The  author’s   schoolmates  collected  notes  books  different  kinds  of  clothes   for  the  author.  Their   kindness   and  fellow  feeling   changed   the  author’s   feelings  towards   life   and   people .  Their   kindness  touch his heart .  He made friends with them and his lonliness vanished . He started   his  life  afresh.

    6.   What   is  the  meaning  of  “ My cat was  back  and  so  was  I” ? Had  the  author   gone  anywhere ?  Why  does  he  say  that  he  is also  back? 

Ans :  

The  author  wants  to  mean  that  he  has  come  back  to  his  earlier  phase   of  life  when  his  cat  was  back.  He  had  not  gone  anywhere  but  mentally   he  had  gone  far  away .  He  felt  lonely   and  life  seemed  to be  meaningless.  But  he  found  new  friends   and  also  his  cat.
