1.       What   does   the  author  notice  one  Sunday   afternoon ?  What  is  his  mother’s  reaction  ?  What does  she  do?

Ans : 

The  author  saw  smoke  coming   out  of  the  ceiling  one  Sunday  afternoon.  His  mother   can  out  carrying  a  small  metal  box.  Again  she  entered  the  house  to  bring  her  husband’s   picture   out  of  the  house .

2.       Why  does   he  break  down  in  tears   after   the  fire?

Ans :  

The  author  broke  down  in  tears   after  the  fire  because  he  could  not  find  his  favourite  cat. 

3.       Why  is  the  author  deeply  embarrassed    the  next  day  in  school  ?  Which  words   show  his  fear  and  insecurity ?

Ans : 

The  author   was   deeply   embarrassed   the  next  day  in  school   because   his  address  was  dirty  , He  felt   that   he  was  going  to  be  outcast  . The  word  ‘weird’,  ‘geek’  and  ‘out’ show  his  fears  and  insecurity.

4.       The   cat  the  author  are  every  fond   of   each  other .  How  has   this  been   shown  in  the  story  ?  Where   was   the  cat   after  the  fire ?  Who  brings   it  back  and  how ?

Ans  : 

The  cat  and  the  author  were  very  much  fond  of  each  other. The  author   began  to  weep  loudly  when   he  failed  to   find  his  cat  after  the  fire .  The   cat  ran  far  away  being  terrified   at  the  sight  of  the  fire. A  woman   found  it.  Though   it  had  a  telephone  number  on  its  collar ,  the  telephone  was  burnt   in  the  fire .  She   took  pains  to  search  the  cat’s  owner.

5.       What   actions   of  the   schoolmates  change  the  author’s  understanding    of   life  and  people ,  and  comfort   him  emotionally  ?  How  does  his  loneliness  vanish  and  how  does  he  start  participating   in  life ?

Ans : 

The  author’s  schoolmates   collected   notes  books,  different  kinds  of  clothes  for  the  author  .  Their   kindness  and  fellow  feeling  changed  the  author’s  feelings  towards   life  and  people .  Their   kindness  touched    his  heart .  He  made  friends   with  them  and  his  loneliness   vanished . He   started  his   life  afresh. 

6.       What   is  he  meaning  of  “My  cat  was  back  and  so  was  I”  ? Had   the  author   gone  any  Where  ?  Why  does  he  say  that  he  is  also  back?

Ans : 

The   author  wants  to  mean  that  he  has  come   back  to  his  earlier  phase   of  life  when   his  cat  was  back .  He   had  not  gone  anywhere  but  mentally  he  had  gone  far  away  .  He  felt  lonely  And   life   seemed  to  be  meaningless .  But   he  found  new    friends   and  also  his  cat.
