Thinking about
the poem .
1. Where does
the traveler find himself
? What problem
does he face ?
Ans : The traveler
finds himself in
a wood where
the road is
divided into parts.
His problem is
that he can’t
decide which road
he should take.
2. Discuss what
these phrases mean
to you .(i)
A yellow
wood
Ans : A
yellow wood indicates
a forest that
turns yellow in
autumn.
(ii)
It was
grassy and wanted
wear .
Ans : It
was grassy and
wanted wear means
that the road
was covered with
grass and nobody
walked along it the
road
needed to be
walked along.
(iii)
The passing
there .
Ans : The
passing there means
walking there.
(iv)
Leaves no
step had trodden
black
Ans : Leaves
no step had
trodden black indicates
that there were
leaves on the road.
And there were
no sign of
footsteps over them.
(v)
How way
leads on to
way .
Ans :
How way leads
on to way
means the way
one road leads
to another road.
One road is
connected with another
road.
3. Is
there any difference
between the two
roads as the
poet describes them
(i)
In stanzas
two and three .
Ans : There
is no difference
between the two
roads as the
poet describes them
in stanzas two
and three.
(ii)
In the
last two lines
of the poem
Ans :
There is difference
between the two
roads in the
last two lines.
The poet took
the less travelled road.
4. What
do you think
the last two
lines of the
poem mean ?
( Looking back
, does the
poet regret his
choice or accept
it ?
Ans : The
theme of the
poem lies in
the last two
lines. The poet
had to make
a choice between
two ways . he
had to accept
one and had
to reject the
other . now
, this choice
had affected his
life . had he
chosen the other
way his life
would have had
a change . perhaps
he regrets.
5. Have
you ever had
to make a
difficult choice (
or do you
think you will
have difficult choices
to make )
? How will
you make the
choice ( for what
reasons ) ?
Ans : Yes, I
had to make
a difficult choice
once . it was
really a difficult
one. During one
summer vacation I got a
chance to go
to see the
Tiger Hills and
at the same
time I had a chance
to participate in
a special coaching
that time. But I opted
for visiting adventurous
“Tiger Hills”. I know
that I would
not be able
to avail such
an opportunity to
go there. I
could later study
hard to manage
and make up
my studies.
6. After you
have made a
choice do you
always think about
what might have
been , or do
you accept the
reality ?
Ans : I don’t
think about what
might have been
after I have
made a choice
but I do
accept the reality.
