ISWARAN THE STORYTELLER [Class - IX- NCERT - Solution - Moments ]

     1.       In  what  way  is  Iswaran   an   asset   to  Mahendra ?

Ans:   Iswaran   was   an  asset  to  Mahendra  because  he  was   quite  attached   to  Mahendra   and  followed  wherever  necessary. Iswaran   was   his  cook .  He  washed   his  clothes  and  talked  to  his  master .  He  gave  his  master  company  in  the  lonely  places.

     2.       How  does  Iswaran   describe the  uprooted   tree   on  the   highway ?  What   effect  does  he  want   to  create  in  his  listeners  ?

Ans : Iswaran   describes  any  event   in  a  dramatic  way .  He   makes  gestures  while  narrating  some  event .  Suspense   prevails   in his  narration .  Regarding   the  uprooted  tree  he  says  that  he  saw   something    huge  like  a  bushy  beast   spreading   across  the   road  and  he  was  about  to  run  away .  He  wants  his  listeners   to  be  thrilled   in  suspense. 

     3.       How   does   he  narrate   the  story  of  the  tusker ?  Does   it  appear    to  be  plausible ?

Ans :  In  a  dramatic  manner ,  with  emulation   of  the  mad  elephant   he  narrates  the  story   of  the  tusker  with  great  confidence .  He  placed  it  plausibly  but  the  final  part  of  the   story  is  not  credible .

     4.       Why   does  the  author  say  that  Iswaran   seemed   to  more  than  make  up  for  the  absence   of  a  TV in   Mahendra’s  living  quarters ?

Ans :  The   author  says  so  because  Iswaran  was   a  good   narrator.  He  could  easily  entertain   his  listeners   while   describing   any  incident.  He  used   gestures   and  also   actions. Mahendra  took  interest   in  those   stories .  So  it  seemed   that  Mahendra  did  not  need  TV  to  get  entertained.

     5.       Mahendra   calls  ghosts  or   spirits   a  figment  of  the  imagination  ,  What  happens  to  him   on  a  full – moon  night ?

Ans : Mahendra   calls  ghosts  or  spirits  a  figment  of  the  imagination   when   Iswaran  narrates  a  story  of  ghost .  But   on  a   full- moon   night   Mahendra   sees   something   like  a  cloudy  form   carrying  a  bundle  in  its  hands. He  thinks   it  to  be  the  female  ghost  about   which  Iswaran  told  him. He  breaks  into  a  cold   sweat  and  falls  back  on  the  pillow, painting.

     6.       Can   you  think   of  some   other   ending  for  the  story  ?     

Ans :   Yes, some  other  ending  can be   given  to  the  story  . Mahendra   can be   made  bold  and  face  the  reality .As  these  situations  are  created   in  one ‘s  subconscious   level  he  should   come  out  to  the  conscious   level  at  once . Being   bold   himself  mahendra  can  make  Iswaran  fearless.
